An 8 Session Case Consultation Seminar.
Classes are every other Tuesday from 10am to 12pm starting 02/12/2019.
Personality disordered clients present special challenges to the therapist. These individuals enter treatment ill-prepared to form a true therapeutic alliance and often don’t benefit from styles of therapy designed for healthier clients. Additionally, they tend to trigger counter-transference reactions in the therapist that if not understood and anticipated can stall or destroy the therapy.
This case consultation seminar will provide clinicians the opportunity to integrate theory and practice to increase the effectiveness of their work with a broad range of personality disordered clients. The type of therapy presented has been described as a “bottom-up” approach to personality disorders, with a focus on increasing ego strength, self-regulation and self-knowledge. It integrates well with the “top-down” approach of behaviorally focused therapies. Current research indicates that personality disordered patients do best with a combination of therapies over time. Each two-hour seminar will include didactic material as well as ample opportunity for discussion, case presentation and consultation.
Target Audience: Psychotherapists, Counselors, Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and other Mental Health Professionals.
Groups will be limited to eight participants and will meet eight times for 2 hours every other week. It is expected that participants will complete the entire eight-session course.
